HONG KONG - SHANGHAI - FRANKFURT
Hong Kong, Tuesday April 3rd, 2018 Company Visit DHL
On Tuesday morning, we visited DHL in Hong Kong.
First, we visited the DHL office building. We were surprised that there was a shopping mall under the office area. First of all, we listened to a very interesting presentation. One of the topics was the facts and figures of the customer service and the DHL Hubs. After the presentation we went to the call centre two floors down.
We were surprised how different the office looked from our offices in Germany.
After the tour in the office building we drove to the DHL Service Centre, where we saw the packing and delivery process.
An employee of DHL showed us how bulky goods and their dimensions are measured. In the afternoon we had leisure time for individual explorations of Hong Kong. A few of us took the chance to visit the Sneaker Street as well as the market to buy some souvenirs.
Hong Kong is the centre of logistics for im- and exports with China. The importance of this hub figured as a strategic isoquant: Within a flight of fife hours time you reach on third of the world`s population!
On our last evening in Hong Kong, the whole group was invited to go to the Sugar Bar on the rooftop of hotel EAST on the 32nd floor. We enjoyed the beautiful view over Hong Kong, had nice conversations about our trip and good drinks.

On our last day, we travelled with the Metro to the Lippo Centre where we visited the AHK, Auslandshandelskammer. Mrs. Kristina Ernst welcomed us and was glad to meet German students. She presented some facts about the organisation of the AHK in Hong Kong and pointed out the differences between Hong Kong and China. She described that the AHK is responsible for helping German companies to get into the Chinese market. Moreover, she told us some more general facts about living and working in Hong Kong.
The facts about the housing situation in Hong Kong were very interesting. The prices for buying an apartment are so high that many people have to live in cages. For example, an apartment with 40 square meters costs several million Euro. The high lease costs are also shown by some German banks that are located in Hong Kong´s Skyscrapers. While some years ago, the banks had three or more floors, nowadays, the banks are only located on one floor in the same building.
After this visit, our travel to Germany started. Back in the hotel, we had some time to relax before our bus drove us to the airport of Hong Kong.
With a lot of new memories, new impressions about the amazing cities and culture, we finally went home and had the rest of the day to relax. We all enjoyed our time in China, made some new friends and are glad to be a part of it.
We would like to thank our Professors Mr. Schellhase and Mr. Bopp for the organisation of the trip to three totally different but very exciting and awesome cities. We believe that some of us will visit Shanghai or Hong Kong a second time for holidays.
